Like the more common version of white-variegated corn, Zea mays var. japonica, ‘Pink Zebra’ is a type of flint corn or popcorn but is more prized for its foliage interest than its grain. It is shorter, though, topping out at about 40 inches at tasseling stage in late summer. The proportionally smaller ears have the usual dark red kernels: nice for fall decorating. Throughout the summer, the foliage is very attractive, with distinct striping in white and various shades of green, as well as a varying amount of pink blush. Its shorter stature makes it a better choice for a large container. It’s also valuable as an unusual vertical accent in a flower bed or border. Full sun. Annual.
As a side note: Most of the ears I collected this year had purple husks instead of the usual tan. I thought that husk color was a nice bonus and saved seeds only from those ears; those are the seeds you will receive. I can’t predict whether your plants will have all or some (or no) purple husks, however.
Harvested in late August to early September 2022. At least 15 seeds. Limit one packet per customer.
Again, cannot ship to NV or WA.
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
