Description
Narrow-leaved ironweed (Vernonia lettermannii) is a U.S. native that typically reaches 4 to 5 feet tall, with slender green leaves and bright purple flowers in late summer to fall. A few years ago, a self-sown seedling from a species plant appeared in my garden with purplish pink flowers. I have no idea if these seeds will maintain this color, produce a range of pinks and purples, or be solid purple, but I offer them for those of you who enjoy experimenting with something different. If nothing else, you’ll end up with a nice purple-flowered ironweed. Full sun. Perennial; Zones 4 to 9.
2020-harvested supply sold out. Did not collect in 2021; not sure if I will be able to collect in 2022. (I reworked the border it was in and now can’t find the plant!) At least 20 seeds.
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
