Trigonella caerulea (Blue Fenugreek) [20 Seeds]

$4.50

Germination Information: If you want to give your plants an extra-early start, sow seeds indoors, 1/8 to 1/4″ deep in pots, in a warm, bright place. It’s usually easier to just sow them directly where you want them to grow, though, in mid to late spring. (The last time I started these, I sowed outdoors April 2 and they started sprouting on April 12. Your experience will likely vary, depending on your weather conditions.) Please be aware that these seeds can have hard seed coats and germinate slowly and irregularly. Lightly rubbing them between two pieces of sandpaper before sowing may help to promote faster germination. Or, just be prepared that the seedlings will emerge over a period of time, extending your harvest. If you allow some of the mature seeds to drop, you are likely to find volunteer seedlings next spring or summer.

Note that this information will not appear on the seed packet you receive.

Description

Blue fenugreek (Trigonella caerulea) is an uncommon herb that can be used fresh or dried (usually the leaves, or the pods and seeds) as a flavoring. I enjoy having it in my garden for the fragrance of the growing plants: they smell just like maple syrup! Sometimes I cut the flowering stems to add scent to bouquets and arrangements. The stems usually reach 18 to 24 inches tall, with clustered, light blue flowers. Blue fenugreek may self-sow. Full sun. Annual.

Collected in July 2023. At least 20 seeds. Shipping to US addresses only.
