Scabiosa stellata (Drumstick Scabious) [12 Seeds]

Germination Information: Start the seeds indoors, about 1/4″ deep, in early to mid spring, or outdoors from mid spring to early summer. I find it easiest to insert them into the soil point-down, so the papery calyx is right at the soil surface, then sprinkle a bit more growing medium over the top and pat it down. Water to keep the growing medium moist until sprouting occurs.

Drumstick scabious (Scabiosa stellata), also known as starflower pincushions, does bloom, with domed, pale blue-and-cream flowers on long, slender stems. Its real claim to fame, though, is its rounded seedheads, which look great in the garden and in fresh and dried arrangements. It generally grows 18 to 24 inches tall. Full sun. Annual.

Collected in mid to late August 2023. At least 12 seeds. Shipping to US addresses only.
