Description
With their bold, bright, daisy-form flowers, rudbeckias are so wonderful for summer color. ‘Prairie Glow’, a strain of our native brown-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia triloba), offers something different than the usual solid golden yellow, with varying amounts of red to orange in the dark-centered blooms. The bushy plants are in the range of 3 to 5 feet tall and flower from midsummer into fall. ‘Prairie Glow’ can bloom the same year you start it from seed, or it can act like a biennial, with flowers the second year from a summer sowing. The plants may even last an additional year or two after that. If you leave the dried seedheads on the plant, it is likely to self-sow from the seeds the birds miss, so you can have an essentially perennial patch from just one sowing. Full sun to light shade. Annual, biennial, or even a short-lived perennial; Zones 4 to 8.
Collected in mid to late September 2022. At least 20 seeds.
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.

Germination was all over the place with these, just as noted on the website. I have several strongly-growing plants, some that are further behind, and some pots where nothing has happened yet but I’m sure it will. As Nan notes, it seems that the key to these is to try several different methods!
