Primula veris (Cowslip) [15 Seeds]

$4.25

Germination Information: I recommend these seeds for experienced seed-sowers only, because they require a period of cold/moist conditions before sprouting, and the germination period can be slow and irregular. The easiest way to handle them is to surface-sow (do not cover) between July and February and leave the pot outdoors, keeping it evenly moist and protected from mice. Or, use the winter-sowing approach in a milk jug. Seedlings should appear in spring. If you sow after February, give the pot of sown seeds an artificial chilling period of about 2 months, then move it to a cool (ideally around 60°F), bright place for germination.

Description

Cowslip (Primula veris) is a primrose species with rich green basal leaves and slender, upright, 6- to 8-inch-tall stems topped with fragrant, nodding, bright yellow flowers in mid- to late spring. This classic cottage-garden perennial pairs beautifully with other early bloomers—particularly blue flowers, like those of Siberian bugloss (Brunnera macrophylla) or woodland forget-me-not (Myosotis sylvatica). It grows best in partial shade with average to rich, moist but well-drained soil. Perennial; Zones 3 to 8.

Collected in early to mid July 2022. At least 15 seeds. Shipping to US addresses only.
