Description
After years of falling for potted primroses in bloom, only to have them fizzle out once I put them in the ground, I had very little interest in trying more of the hybrids. I was graced with a generous seed gift of several strains of Barnhaven primroses, though, and I had heard many wonderful things about their plants, so I knew they would be special. Well, they have far exceeded my highest expectations: the plants are vigorous, their flowers are large and abundant, and they have thrived here through several growing seasons. Now that I have a number of happy, well-established clumps, I am offering their seeds to other gardeners who’d like to give these beauties a try. These seeds are from Barnhaven’s Harvest Yellows Group plants (so wonderfully fragrant, by the way!) growing near a clump of their Winter White Group. I can’t predict exactly what colors they will produce (both groups have some inherent variability), but they will likely be mostly yellows. Height in bloom is generally 6 to 8 inches. Partial shade; average to rich, moist but well-drained soil. Perennial; Zones 3 to 8.
2023-collected seeds are sold out. I hope to collect again in early July 2024. At least 12 seeds. Very limited supply, so one packet per person. Shipping to US addresses only.
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
