Description
Purple-leaved plantain (Plantago major ‘Atropurpurea’ or ‘Rubrifolia’), an ornamental version of a common lawn and garden weed, produces rosettes of broad leaves that start out green and darken to reddish purple. (When well grown, in rich, most soil, this plant can look much like a compact, purple-leaved hosta.) Slender green bloom spikes emerge from the center of the clump; clip them off if you don’t like them or let them stay if you want the plant to self-sow (which it will do, abundantly). Usually 6 to 12 inches tall. Full sun to partial shade. Zones 3 to 9.
Collected in August 2023. At least 30 seeds. Shipping to US addresses only.
