Variegated pokeweed (known as either ‘Variegata’ or ‘Silberstein’) is a stunningly showy form of ordinary American pokeweed (Phytolacca americana), with cream-splashed and -speckled foliage on stout, reddish pink, 3- to 6-foot-tall stems. Its slender clusters of small, white flowers mature to black berries. Though the species American pokeweed is a U.S. native, it tends to self-sow freely if not deadheaded, to the point of being considered invasive in some areas. It also has some toxic properties if eaten.
