Description
I grew ‘Forelle Fliederfarben’ for the first time in 2019 from seeds I received from a bean collector in northern Italy. Since then, I have made almost all of my seed harvest available to gardeners in the US who are interested in unusual bean varieties. I occasionally pick some of the developing purple-streaked green pods from the vigorous and productive vines and think they have great flavor as a fresh bean. I believe this variety is meant for dry use, though, or perhaps both? The seeds themselves are beautiful and distinctive, with a rounded shape and a lovely lavender-purple color with darker purple swirls; they almost look like pieces of candy! Full sun. Annual.
Collected in mid September 2023. At least 12 seeds. Shipping to US addresses only.
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.

These are gorgeous beans. Germination was slow for me, and not 100%, but I did get several vines sprouted. Unfortunately, the gophers love them, so all of my vines were wiped out this year, but I will try to grow them again next year after gopher-proofing the area. These are much slower to come up than other bean varieties, so don’t give up on them.
