Description
You’ll rarely see seeds of this pretty little annual for sale—under its correct name, at least. I bought seeds that were supposed to be Phacelia purshii and ended up with this species instead, ID’d with the help of a knowledgeable gardening friend. Divaricate phacelia, also known as trailing phacelia, produces low clumps (around 8 to 10 inches tall) of lax stems clad in oval-ish leaves and single, open, lavender blue-and-white flowers. It flowers here in in PA in late spring through early summer. It is an uncommon and charming species worth growing for early color at the front of a border or as a filler around perennials that are slow to get going in spring, such as balloon flower (Platycodon grandiflorus) or hardy hibiscus (Hibiscus spp.). Native to parts of California. Full sun. Annual.
Collected in late June to mid July 2023. At least 20 seeds. Unknown ecotype. Shipping to US addresses only.
