Penstemon digitalis (Foxglove Penstemon) [30 Seeds]

Germination Information: I recommend these seeds only for gardeners who have experience with seeds that benefit from or require a chilling period. The easiest approach is to surface-sow (do not cover) the seeds in a pot in fall to late winter, setting them outdoors so they can get a natural chilling period and then germinate when conditions are right in spring.

If you sow after February, give the pot an artificial chilling period of about 2 months.

It is possible that these seeds could germinate (though perhaps at a less than optimal rate) if you sow them in warm, moist, bright conditions. But if you try that and no seedlings appear within 3 weeks or so, then try the artificial chilling period described above.

Note that this information will not appear on the seed packet you receive.

Foxglove penstemon (Penstemon digitalis) grows 2 to 4 feet tall, with loose spikes of white to pink-blushed white flowers over green leaves in early summer, followed by green seedpods that turn brown when mature. The red to maroon fall foliage color is also quite showy. U.S. native (seeds collected from my meadow). Full sun to light shade. Perennial; Zones 3 to 8.

Collected in mid to late September 2022. PA ecotype; provenance is Bucks County, PA. At least 30 seeds.

Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
