Papaver somniferum “Drama Mix” (Annual Poppy) [200 Seeds]

(3 customer reviews)

$4.25

Germination Information: In my experience, these poppies grow best if you scatter (surface sow) the seeds outdoors right where you want them to grow, in late fall to early spring, so they can germinate while the soil is still cool. (Later plantings may still sprout, but the plants tend to be shorter and scrawnier, with smaller flowers.) Let at least some of the pods dry in your garden, then shake or crumble the browned seedheads around your garden to enjoy the poppies again next year.

‘Drama Queen’ is a strain of annual poppy that typically grows 2 to 3 feet tall, with single, cupped, early-summer blooms that are deep purple at the base and bright red at the fringed tips. After self-sowing here every year for several years, the strain changed a bit: most of the flowers had the typical two-color, fringed appearance, but some were a solid wine color, and some lacked the fringed edges. They all were in the same basic color range, though, and looked great together. Because it is no longer a stable strain (off-types may appear), I’m selling these seeds as “Drama Mix” rather than ‘Drama Queen’ and including a lot more seeds than usual. Full sun to light shade. Annual.

Harvested in mid- to late July 2023. At least 200 seeds. Shipping to US addresses only.

Again, cannot ship to WV.

I ordered these too late for planting this spring, but poppy seeds keep well and I plan to broadcast them outside next winter.
