Germination Information: In my experience, these poppies grow best if you scatter (surface sow) the seeds outdoors right where you want them to grow, in late fall to early spring, so they can germinate while the soil is still cool. (Later plantings may still sprout, but the plants tend to be shorter and scrawnier, with smaller flowers.) Let at least some of the pods dry in your garden, then shake or crumble the browned seedheads around your garden to enjoy the poppies again next year.

If you’ve grown Papaver somniferum before, you know how the flowers are always buzzing with busy bees, and how easily they cross-pollinate as a result. I collected these seeds from a variety of different colors and forms: fringed or unfringed, single or double flowers in a range of purples, pinks, and reds. No guarantees as to what you’ll get, but really, have you ever seen an ugly poppy? This mix is ideal for sprinkling anywhere you want some late spring to early summer color. Full sun to light shade. Annual.

Collected in July 2022. At least 200 seeds.
