Germination Information: You have a couple of options with these seeds. One is to surface-sow them in a pot in late fall to midwinter and set them outdoors to get a chilling period, which can enhance the germination rate. You could instead provide an artificial chilling period by putting the pot in a plastic bag in your refrigerator for a month or two before moving it to a warm, bright place (remove the bag if the pot will get any direct sun).

It’s also possible that at least some of the seeds could germinate if you start them beginning in warm, bright conditions, but I haven’t tried that myself.

The last time I started this species from seed, I sowed on December 5 and kept the pot in my cool basement (around 45°F). Germination started on January 27.
