Mertensia virginica (Virginia Bluebells) [15 Seeds]

$4.75

Germination Information: I recommend these seeds only for gardeners with experience handling multi-cycle germinators. The usual protocol is to sow them as soon as you get them, just covered with soil, and leave the pot outdoors—or sow directly in a nursery bed. I like to cover them with a layer of grit for extra protection. Seedlings should appear next spring but may take an additional year to appear.

Note that this information will not appear on the seed packet you receive.

Description

Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica) grace woodlands in spring with their broad foliage, pink buds, and gorgeous, sky-blue blooms. Typical height in bloom is 18 to 24 inches. It is considered a spring ephemeral, as it quickly dies back to the ground after bloom, re-emerging early the following spring. Hardy in Zones 3 to 8. This species is native to much of eastern North America. These seeds are from plants I grew from seed from a source in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Collected in mid- to late May 2023. At least 15 seeds per packet; one packet per customer. PA ecotype. Shipping to US addresses only.
