Description
These seeds have a bit of a mystery behind them: I received them from a source in Europe with the label Linaria grandiflora ‘Charmer Mix’, but they clearly weren’t that, as they ended up having blue flowers instead of the expected mix of red, pink, purple, orange, and white. As far as I can tell, the plants are annual; at least, they’ve shown no sign of overwintering here in southeastern PA. Considering that, and the fact that the original source listed only one other kind of flax—Linum usitatissimum—I think it most likely that that is indeed what these seeds are. The slender, upright, top-branching stems reach 2 to 3 feet tall, with many single blue flowers that generally open early in the morning and close by early afternoon. The bloom display lasts for about a month, followed by an abundance of round seedpods, which are also ornamental and lovely for cutting in their green-to-golden-brown stage. If you leave the seedpods on the plants until they are fully dry so you can harvest the edible, glossy brown seeds, the plants may self-sow. Full sun.
Collected in mid July 2023. At least 30 seeds. Shipping to US addresses only.
