Germination Information: Please do not order these seeds unless you have experience with sowing seeds that require a natural or artificial chilling period to germinate.

Surface-sow these dust-like seeds in a container in early fall and set them outdoors; they should germinate in spring or summer. If you sow after that, getting germination can more more challenging and may require an artificial warm period (of about a month) followed by a chilling period of about 2 months. Some sources indicate that the seeds may germinate if started in warm conditions , so that may be another option if you wish to experiment.

Note that this information will not be on the seed packet you receive.

Description

Path rush (Juncus tenuis) is a low-growing perennial usually reaching about 1 foot tall, with slender, bright-green, grass-like foliage, plus greenish flowers in late spring to early or midsummer, maturing to golden brown seedheads in summer. It’s a tough plant and can tolerate compacted soil and occasional foot traffic but is best suited as a groundcover or as lower-level part of a meadow-type planting or rain garden. Path rush is native to much of North America; these seeds are from plants that grow wild in my meadow in Bucks County, PA. Full sun to partial shade; normally grows in moist conditions but is adaptable. Perennial; Zones 3 to 9.

Collected in lateJuly 2023. At least 50 seeds. PA ecotype. Shipping to US addresses only.
