Juncus effusus (Smooth Rush) [50 Seeds]

$4.25

Germination Information: I recommend these only for gardeners who have experience with sowing seeds that require a natural or artificial chilling period to germinate.

Ideally, surface-sow these dust-like seeds in a pot in early fall and set them outdoors; they should germinate when conditions are right in spring. If you sow after early fall, getting germination can more more challenging and may require a warm period (about 1 month) followed by an artificial chilling period of about 2 months, then cool to moderate temperatures.

Note that this information will not be on the seed packet you receive.

Description

Smooth rush (Juncus effusus) is a moisture-appreciating, grass-like perennial with long, slender, spiky foliage that’s typically evergreen, plus golden flowers in mid- to late summer. Reaching about 2 feet tall, this clump-forming rush is handsome on the edge of a pond, in a rain garden, or in a moist meadow (that’s where it grows here at Hayefield). Native throughout much of North America. Full sun. Perennial; Zones 3 to 9.

Harvested in late July 2022. At least 50 seeds. PA ecotype.

Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
