Description
Dyer’s woad (Isatis tinctoria), also simply known as woad, is a biennial or short-lived perennial. The first year, it forms a low foliage rosette only. In the second year, and sometimes for another year or two, it sends up branching stems filled with bright yellow blooms in late spring to early summer, followed by an abundance of flat, black seeds. Full sun.
Dyer’s woad is prized as a dye plant by hand-dyers and fabric artists. Be aware, however, that it is considered a noxious weed in a number of states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming, so please do not order these seeds if you live in any of these states.
Collected in late June 2022. At least 20 seeds.
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
