Lavender moonvine (Ipomoea muricata), also known as clove bean, is a twining vine with lavender-purple to pinkish lavender, single flowers that open in the evening and close the next day. It is not fragrant, as white moonflower (Ipomoea alba) is, and the flowers aren’t as large, but the two species look great growing together in an evening garden or moon garden. Or, you might pair lavender moonvine with a day-flowering morning glory to have round-the-clock bloom. Figure it will grow 8 to 12 feet tall, or possibly even larger, if it’s in good growing conditions in the ground and the support is that big. Best in full sun. Annual. Be aware that this species can self-sow freely, to the point of being considered invasive in some warm-climate areas.
2021-collected seeds sold out. I hope to collect again in fall 2022. At least 6 seeds.
