Description
Wild strawberry (Fragaria virginiana) offers multi-season features: rosettes of trifoliate, green leaves that turn red in fall, plus white flowers in mid- to late spring and small but tasty red fruits in late spring to early summer. (Note that wild critters love the fruits too, so if you want to harvest some, you’ll have to check the plants frequently!) The height is generally around 6 inches; the spread is indefinite, as the plants send out surface runners that produce new plants, which then send out their own runners. Here at Hayefield, in Bucks County, PA, wild strawberry grows among grasses and wildflowers in my naturalistic borders and meadow areas. On its own, it can create a good-looking groundcover. Native to many parts of North America. Full sun to partial shade. Perennial; Zones 4 to 8.
Collected in early June 2023. At least 20 seeds. PA ecotype. Shipping to US addresses only.
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
