Dianthus plumarius (Cottage Pink) [20 Seeds]

(1 customer review)

$4.25

Germination Information: I recommend starting these seeds in pots, either indoors in late winter through spring or outdoors from late spring through midsummer. Just barely cover them with moist growing medium, firm lightly, and set them in a warm, bright place to sprout.

Description

Cottage pink (Dianthus plumarius) may not be a “hot” perennial these days, but it has long been a classic garden plant, particularly in cottage-style plantings. It grows in low, evergreen carpets of narrow, blue-green leaves, with slender, 8- to 12-inch-tall, upright to somewhat arching stems topped with single flowers through much of the summer, or even into fall with deadheading. The fringed blooms are usually shades of pink but may also be white, and they may be solid-colored or have various markings. (The photos here show some of the plants I collected these seeds from; your plants are likely to look different.) They’re lovely for cutting for small vases, so you can enjoy their fragrance indoors too. Full sun. Perennial; Zones 3 to 8.

Collected in mid to late July 2023. At least 20 seeds. Shipping to US addresses only.

Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
