Description
Carthusian pink (Dianthus carthusianorum), also known as clusterhead pink, bears clusters of bright pink flowers from early to mid- or late summer atop slender, 18- to 30-inch-tall stems over dense tufts of grass-like green leaves. It’s perfectly at home in a cottage garden with speedwells (Veronica), lady’s mantles (Alchemilla), and roses, or in a meadow-style planting with relatively low grasses, such as prairie dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis) and tufted hairgrass (Deschampsia cespitosa). Full sun to light shade. Perennial; Zones 5 to 9.

Such a robust little seedling! I’ve been excited about growing this special and unusual Dianthus ever since I came across it online in some English garden blogger’s images. We have a few good nurseries around here, but no one carried it. I found Hayefield during a search and discovered she carries some of the most wonderful plants! The Dianthus carthusianorum I started this season are thick and luscious with lots of sturdy leaves. I’ll be putting them in the garden shortly amidst some taller grasses for that willowy effect sought after in naturalistic gardens. Thrilled to have found Hayefield!
