Crocus tommasinianus (Tommasini’s Crocus) [20 Seeds]

$4.75

Germination Information: I recommend these seeds only for gardeners experienced with slow-to-germinate perennial seeds. As soon as you receive them, sow them in a pot, about 1/8″ deep. and cover with a thin layer of grit. Set the pot outdoors or sink it up to the rim in a nursery bed and leave it outdoors. The seedlings will likely appear the following spring but may take an additional year to sprout.

Note that this information will not appear on the seed packet you receive.

Description

Tommasini’s crocus (Crocus tommasinianus)—or “Tommies,” as they are known to their friends—are one of the first flowers to appear in early spring: a welcome sight after a long winter. Their purple blooms reach about 4 inches tall. Growing from small corms, Tommies tend to self-sow and can form extensive carpets of bloom after many years. Give them a well-drained site that is sunny through spring; they’ll die back to the ground by early summer, so they don’t much care whether it’s sunny or shady after that. Zones 3 to 8.

2023-collected seeds are sold out. I hope to collect again in mid- to late May 2024. At least 20 seeds per packet. Shipping to U.S. addresses only.

Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
