Capsicum annuum ‘Black Pearl’ (Pepper) [12 Seeds]

Germination Information: Sow the seeds indoors, about 1/4″ deep, in late winter to early spring and set them in a warm, bright place. Providing supplemental heat with a seed-starting mat can enhance germination and the growth of the seedlings. Be aware that it’s normal for the young seedlings to have variable amounts of purple and green in their leaves; they will all darken later. Wait a week or two until after your last frost date to move the seedlings outdoors; pepper plants will sulk if they get chilled.

‘Black Pearl’ pepper (Capsicum annuum) is prized for its ornamental qualities: its glossy, near-black leaves, small purple flowers, and shiny, clustered fruits that start out black and ripen to rich red. It’s not just a pretty face, though; if you can handle the heat, the fruits are edible, too: medium-hot when black to pretty powerful when red-ripe. The bushy plants reach about 18 inches tall and are gorgeous in containers as well as in beds and borders. Full sun. Annual in most climates.

Harvested in October 2020. At least 12 seeds.
