Description
A gem for shady gardens, Chinese ground orchid (Bletilla striata) is much less fussy than you might expect from an orchid. It grows from pseudobulbs, producing long, relatively narrow, pleated leaves and separate flowering stems to about 18 inches tall, carrying elegant, pinkish purple flower in late spring. Eventually, they can spread by short rhizomes to form broad clumps. Partial shade; soil that’s somewhat on the moist side. Hardy in Zones 6 to 9, maybe up to Zone 5 with protection, or grow it in a container and bring it indoors for the winter.
Collected in late October 2022. Each packet contains at least 50 seeds (likely many more; be aware that they are VERY tiny, looking something like fine sawdust in the packet).
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
