Astilbe biternata (Appalachian False Goatsbeard) [25 Seeds]

$4.75

Germination Information: I recommend these only for experienced seed-sowers, because they are tiny and require careful handling, and because they may require some experimentation. I have not grown this species from seed myself, so I can only suggest surface-sowing in fall to midwinter and leaving the pot outdoors to provide a natural chilling period.

Note that this information will not appear on the seed packet you receive.

Description

This rarely offered native astilbe species looks very much like true goatsbeard (Aruncus dioicus), producing sizeable clumps of large, compound leaves accented with plumes of white flowers in late spring to summer. The plants can eventually reach 3 to 4 feet tall and wide in leaf (4 to 6 feet tall in bloom). Partial to full shade; average to moist soil. Perennial; Zones 4 to 9.

2022-collected seeds are sold out. I hope to collect again in August 2023. At least 25 seeds. US native (eastern); ecotype unknown. Shipping to US addresses only.

Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
