Asclepias curassavica (Tropical Milkweed) [15 Seeds]

$4.25

Germination Information: Sow the seeds indoors, just covered with moist growing medium, in late winter to mid spring and set them in a warm, bright place to germinate. (The last time I started this species from seeds, I sowed them on April 21, on a heat mat under lights, and they began sprouting on April 30. Your experience may vary.) Transplant the seedlings outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.

Description

Tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) produces clusters of bright orange-and-yellow blooms from midsummer to frost atop plants that reach 3 to 4 feet tall: great for height and color—and butterflies!—in a bed, border, or container. Speaking of butterflies: I grow at least five kinds of milkweed here at Hayefield, and the tropical milkweed always hosts more monarch larvae than any others (Asclepias incarnata usually comes in second). Full sun. Can be grown as an annual anywhere; may be perennial in Zones 8 to 10.

Harvested in July and August 2022. At least 15 seeds.

Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
