Description
With most columbines (Aquilegia), the flowers are the key feature, and this one does have attractive, single blooms in a rich purplish blue hue. The plants I collected these seeds from have a marvelous bonus feature: bright yellow foliage that perfectly complements the flowers. The leaf color is strongest in spring, with some colorful new leaves possibly appearing later in the season, particularly as the weather cools. I do have other columbines growing elsewhere here at Hayefield, so there’s a possibility that these seeds may produce some off-type plants. I don’t think any others were blooming at the same time these were, though, so there’s a good chance they will be true. Full sun to light shade. Perennial; Zones 3 to 9.
2021-collected seeds sold out. I hope to collect again in midsummer 2022. At least 20 seeds.
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
