Description
Usually reaching around 18 inches tall, ‘Black Prince’ snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus) may not be particularly tall, but is certainly dark and handsome. The bushy clumps have maroon stems that carry slender, rich green leaves that are shaded with purple in cool weather. In early to midsummer—and usually again later in the season, with deadheading—the stems are lined at the top with lipped, velvety, deep red flowers. This heirloom variety is gorgeous in the garden and as a fresh cut flower for small arrangements. It performs best in cooler climates; summer heat and humidity can cause the plants to take a break from flowering. That may not be a bad thing, though: The fall show may be even more abundant, and it’s even more likely that the red flowers and dark foliage will appear together. Full sun. Annual. (The plants may survive the winter, though, in some conditions.)
2021-collected seeds sold out. Not sure if I will grow this again in 2022; it’s lovely but set very little seed. At least 20 seeds. Limited amount available.
Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
