Amsonia ridiga (Stiff Bluestar) [15 Seeds]

$4.50

Germination Information: I recommend these seeds for gardeners who have experience with seeds that benefit from a chilling period. The easiest approach is to sow the seeds (just barely covered with growing medium) in a pot in fall to late winter, setting them outdoors in a spot protected from mice so they can get a chilling period and then germinate when conditions are right in spring. (The winter-sowing technique works well for these seeds.)

If you sow after February, give the pot an artificial chilling period of about 2 months.

Description

Stiff bluestar (Amsonia rigida) is a US native that produces clusters of light blue flowers in late spring and rich yellow fall leaf color. It grows in clumps that reach 2 to 3 feet tall. The plants I collected these seeds from were growing near Arkansas bluestar (A. hubrichtii), so there’s a small possibility that some seedlings may show some intermediate traits. Full sun to light shade. Perennial; Zones 5(?) to 9.

Collected in mid- to late September 2023. At least 15 seeds. Shipping to U.S. addresses only.

Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
