Amsonia ridiga (Stiff Bluestar) [20 Seeds]

$4.25

Germination Information: I recommend these seeds for gardeners who have experience with seeds that benefit from a chilling period. The easiest approach is to sow the seeds (just barely covered with growing medium) in a pot in fall to late winter, setting them outdoors in a spot protected from mice so they can get a chilling period and then germinate when conditions are right in spring.

If you sow after February, give the pot an artificial chilling period of about 2 months.

Description

Stiff bluestar (Amsonia rigida) is a U.S. native that produces clusters of light blue flowers in late spring and rich yellow fall leaf color; 2 to 3 feet tall. The overall effect is something like that of ‘Blue Ice’, but this species is taller and a clump-former rather than a spreader. The plants I collected these seeds from were growing near Arkansas bluestar (A. hubrichtii), so there’s a small possibility that some seedlings may show some intermediate traits. Full sun to light shade. Perennial; Zones 5(?) to 9.

Collected in mid- to late September 2022. At least 20 seeds.

Please read the germination information as well before ordering.
