Abelmoschus manihot (Sunset Hibiscus) [12 Seeds]

Germination Information: Start the seeds indoors in late winter to mid spring, about 1/4″ deep, in a warm, bright place. A heat mat will help to speed sprouting; so can nicking and then soaking the seeds overnight. In 2021, I sowed the seeds on a heat mat on March 18 and they sprouted on March 22. In 2022, I sowed without using a heat mat on April 7 and the first seed didn’t sprout until April 28. While waiting, I took some seeds from the same harvest, nicked them on April 25, soaked them for 24 hours before potting them up (again, without a heat mat), and sprouts appeared on April 28.

Set the seedlings outdoors a week or two after all danger of frost has passed. They do not like to get chilled! If you allow the seedpods to develop on the plant, you may find self-sown seedlings in that area next year, but they probably won’t appear until early or even midsummer.
